Kathmandu. US President Donald Trump has said that he will take strict action against countries that impose taxes on companies like Microsoft, Google, Amazon and Meta.
With the announcement of taking strict action against countries that impose Digital Service Tax (DST), Nepal has also been affected.
Nepal has also been imposing DST of 2 percent of annual turnover on technology companies.
In Nepal, American technology companies like Microsoft, Google, Meta, Adobe, Netflix, Amazon, Apple paid 41.5 million DST in the last fiscal year 2080/81.
Last year, among the DST payers in Nepal, an American company alone had a maximum turnover of 1.31 billion rupees.
The government of Nepal announced the inclusion of electronic social networks in the tax system for the first time through the budget of 2079/80.
n the year 2079, the Auditor General's 59th report also pointed out that a large amount of money was diverted from the state through payments for using applications such as YouTube, Tik Tok, Google Meet, and Zoom.
